These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Falcontext browser extension, Falcontext Perch (the web app at falcontext.com/app/), the Falcontext desktop app for Mac and Windows and the falcontext.com website (together, the "Service"), operated by Falcontext ("Falcontext", "we", "us"). By installing the extension or the desktop app, or using Perch or the website, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
Falcontext tracks writing progress – word counts, goals, streaks, and prose quality – while you write: as a browser extension (for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Firefox) in Google Docs and other web-based editors; as a web app, Falcontext Perch, on falcontext.com/app/, for Google Docs and its own writing pad; and as a desktop app for Mac and Windows, for Scrivener, Word and LibreOffice Writer documents (and Pages, on the Mac). The Service also includes the falcontext.com website.
2. Free and Pro plans
Falcontext offers two tiers:
- Free – core tracking features, without ads.
- Pro – a recurring subscription that unlocks additional features, including but not limited to: the 7-day trend graph, the full Prose Analysis suite (clichés, repeated-word detection, readability, and dialogue/narrative checks), Focus Mode, the multi-manuscript dashboard, deeper Bird’s Eye insights (length-outlier flags, per-chapter dialogue/style breakdowns, first-appearance order, character co-occurrence, and likely-POV marking), and unlimited Synonym Checker lookups (Free is limited to one lookup per day).
Ad-Free, a one-time purchase, is no longer sold. An Ad-Free license bought before October 14, 2026 keeps working as it did: it does not unlock Pro-only features.
Feature availability for each tier may change over time; we’ll make reasonable efforts to communicate material changes.
3. Purchases and billing
Pro bought through Paddle is sold by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited), our merchant of record, under Paddle’s buyer terms. Pro bought through Lemon Squeezy, and Ad-Free, are processed by Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record. Refunds: see our refund policy.
- Ad-Free (no longer sold) was a single, one-time payment. It does not renew and there is nothing to cancel; it stops applying only if you remove the license key from the extension’s Settings.
- Pro is billed on a recurring monthly or yearly basis and renews automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled.
- Where offered, Pro Lifetime is a single payment for Pro for as long as Falcontext offers Pro, with nothing more to pay. It is for one person, like every plan.
- A free trial of Pro through Paddle needs no payment method: add one before the trial ends to keep Pro; without one, the trial ends and nothing is charged. A trial through Lemon Squeezy takes payment details up front and is charged when it ends, unless cancelled before then.
- You can cancel a Pro subscription at any time; you’ll keep Pro access until the end of the current billing period, after which your account reverts to the Free plan (or to Ad-Free, if you separately hold an Ad-Free purchase). No tracked history is deleted when this happens.
- We may change pricing for either tier with reasonable advance notice; changes to a recurring subscription apply from your next renewal.
4. License to use the Service
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Falcontext for your own writing, subject to these Terms. You agree not to reverse-engineer, resell, sublicense, or circumvent Falcontext’s license/subscription checks, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits.
A license key is for one person. You may use it on all your own devices: each browser, computer or app where you enter it counts as one activation. To prevent sharing, a key can only be activated a limited number of times; if you reach that limit with your own devices (after replacing a computer, say), email support@falcontext.com and we’ll free up the old ones. Please don’t share your key with others.
5. Your content stays yours
You retain all rights to the manuscripts and text you write. Falcontext does not upload, store, or claim any ownership over your manuscript text – see our Privacy Policy for exactly what data is and isn’t collected.
6. Intellectual property
The Falcontext name, logo, extension software, and website are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of that ownership to you.
7. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party services – Google (Docs API, Chrome Sync, Google Drive), Mozilla (Firefox Sync), Dropbox and Microsoft (OneDrive), Paddle and Lemon Squeezy (payments), Cloudflare and Hostinger (the website), GitHub (desktop app updates), Discord (the sprint bot), and in versions before 4.1.1 Datamuse (synonym lookups) – each governed by their own terms. We’re not responsible for the availability or behavior of these third-party services.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." Word counts, streaks, estimated completion dates, and prose-quality checks are heuristic tools meant to support your writing process – they are not guaranteed to be perfectly accurate, and Falcontext is not a substitute for backing up your own manuscript through your editor or cloud storage provider of choice.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Falcontext and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the extension and/or cancelling your subscription. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially violate these Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Netherlands, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page; continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
