Check your whole story, not just its sentences, without AI
Falcontext is a writing checker that finds what other tools need AI for, like a character who stands up twice without sitting down. It sits beside your draft in Google Docs, Scrivener, Word and more.
It caught 16 of 17 story slips in our test. Grammarly’s free plan caught 2.

What other writing checkers miss
Falcontext reads your whole book at once. Spelling and grammar checkers read a sentence at a time, so they can’t see that:
- a character stands up twice without sitting down
- a name is spelled two ways, 300 pages apart
- her eyes are brown in chapter 2 and blue in chapter 19
- a scene slips into a second character’s head
- a paragraph is in the book twice
- a character has been gone for nine chapters
It isn’t a spelling or grammar checker, though: keep your editor’s for that.
Why I made it
I’m Matt Falcon, a Dutch fantasy writer. I started Falcontext to count my words, because every tool I tried wanted to rewrite them instead.
Along the way I found that what other tools use AI for can be done without it. Falcontext found a character standing up twice in my own published book.
My writing might be sub-par, but my promises aren’t. And I will always hold to this one: your writing is never sent anywhere, and no AI is used on your writing in any way. Why Falcontext has no AI in it.
Matt
“Importantly, there’s no AI garbage whatsoever.”
“2nd #book with this #protagonist & I am still spelling Rourke’s name wrong at least once a chapter.
#WritingCommunity do you ever do that?
Or am I just special. [Ok don’t answer that bit]
But now I have #Falcontext by @realmattfalcon reminding me how stupid i am 🤦🤣”

When you edit
Open the Edit tab and each check gets a green tick, an orange triangle or a red square, set from published novels and scientific research. Click one to see what it found, marked in your text. Editing a whole book, pass by pass
Bird’s Eye
Bird’s Eye finds your chapters and scenes and shows how long each one is. Track your characters to see who is in every scene, and who has been gone too long.

Your sentences too
It finds slips and habits in single sentences as well, like a sound-alike, a doubled word, filter words or adverbs:
He was panting hard when they finally saw something in the distance, in the direction they were walking. He stopped and squinted, shielding his eyes from the sun with his hands. Tents. He saw tents! The others had obviously seen them as well because their pace increased substantially.
From chapter 4 of my book. It also looks at dialogue tags, pacing, homophones and much more.
Fix and Fix all
Some slips have one right answer, like a straight quote or the wrong kind of ellipsis. Press Fix to change one, or Fix all for the whole book. It works in every editor Falcontext supports.
How well it does without AI
On 1 November I gave seven tools 240 new sentences of fiction and a short story. 170 sentences had one slip of the kinds Falcontext looks for: a sound-alike, a doubled word, one word or two, dialogue punctuation or spacing. The story had 17 slips in consistency, like a name spelled two ways.
Across the story, Falcontext caught 16 of 17, the most of any tool, with no false alarms. Grammarly’s free plan caught 2, ProWritingAid 4. In single sentences Grammarly, ProWritingAid and the AI tools caught more. Falcontext caught more than Word and Pages, and made no false alarms there either.
| Tool | Story slips (of 17) | Sentences caught (of 170) | False alarms (of 70 right) | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (free), 3 runs | 10–12 | 50–164 | 0–4 | AI, in a data centre |
| Google AI Mode, 3 runs | 6–11 | 158–164 | 2–11 | AI, in a data centre |
| Grammarly (free plan) | 2 | 153 | 1 | Uses AI, on Grammarly’s servers |
| ProWritingAid | 4 | 141 | 3 | On ProWritingAid’s servers |
| Falcontext | 16 | 111 | 0 | No AI, on your own device |
| Word for Mac | 6 | 89 | 4 | Built into the editor |
| Pages | 6 | 31 | 5 | Built into the editor |

While you write
Set a daily goal and a goal for the whole book. Falcontext counts what you add and tells you when you’ll finish at this pace. Your streak survives one missed day, and your records and a graph show how the weeks went. How the tracker counts
Plan your scenes first, if you like. Falcontext then shows where the book went its own way: “Planned in Tom’s head, but it reads as Mara’s.” How your plan works
Run a timed sprint, or sprint with other writers. Turn on Focus Mode and everything but the page fades. Synonyms are a click away when you’re stuck on a word.
It also catches small slips as you type, like a doubled word or a stray space.

What writers ask first
Is Falcontext free?
Yes. Free has no time limit and needs no sign-up: word counts, daily and total goals, streaks, sprints, reminders, Bird’s Eye with one tracked character, and the free checks in full (adverbs, passive voice, tense and point of view, dialogue tags, filter words and plain slips like doubled words). The other checks show their icon and how much they found. Pro is $19.99 a year or $1.99 a month, with a free trial.
Is it a grammar checker?
Not a full one. It finds slips like sound-alikes, doubled words and dialogue punctuation, but it doesn’t check grammar the way Grammarly does. Keep your editor’s own spelling and grammar check on. Falcontext looks at what those can’t see: the whole book.
Will Falcontext read or store my manuscript?
No. Your writing is never sent anywhere: Falcontext reads it on your own device, and every count and check runs there. It keeps numbers (word counts, goals, streaks), your settings, and your documents’ names, plus a phrase from a finding you choose to ignore. The privacy policy lists it all.
Does Falcontext use AI?
No. No AI is used on your writing in any way. Every check, from continuity slips to adverbs, is a rule or a word list that runs on your own device, which is also why a whole book is checked in seconds. Nothing rewrites your text, and your manuscript never trains anything.
Which editors does it work in?
The browser extension works in Google Docs, Atticus, WordPress and Ellipsus, and soon in Reedsy Studio and Wattpad. The desktop app works beside Scrivener, Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, OpenOffice, Vellum and Apple Pages, on a Mac or Windows. Perch, the web app, works in any browser, phones too, with a writing pad of its own.
