OpenOffice word count trackerTrack your OpenOffice word count each day, and check the whole story

Apache OpenOffice Writer shows its word count under Tools → Word Count. Falcontext keeps a count of each day beside it, with your goal and streak, and checks the whole story for slips like a name spelled two ways. Nothing is uploaded.

Mac (macOS 10.13 or later, Apple silicon or Intel) or Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.

How to see the word count in OpenOffice Writer

Writer shows its count here:

  1. Tools → Word Count

A small window with the selection and the whole document, words and characters. Highlight a passage first to count just that.

What Falcontext adds to the OpenOffice word count

OpenOffice Writer gives you

  • Words and characters for the whole file (Tools → Word Count)
  • The Navigator, if you use heading styles
  • A spell checker and a grammar checker

Falcontext adds

  • What you wrote today. Word Count gives the whole document. Falcontext counts what you added since this morning, keeps your daily goal and works out a finish date.
  • Marked in OpenOffice, fixed there on Windows. Findings are marked over the page in OpenOffice, on Mac and Windows. On Windows, Fix and Fix all change the text through OpenOffice itself.
  • Checks on the whole story. Eyes that change colour, or a scene that slips into another head. Plus tense slips, dialogue tags, filter words and homophones, all with rules, on your own computer.
  • Your .odt, left as it is. Falcontext reads it to count it and never writes it. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Chapters from your headings. Give chapter titles a heading style, and Bird’s Eye lists every chapter’s length next to your target.
  • Who’s where. Which characters are in which chapter, and who’s been missing too long.
  • One history for everything. OpenOffice documents, Word files, Scrivener projects and Google Docs share one streak; a book in several files can be one manuscript (Pro).
  • Focus mode. Writer’s window fills the screen, with today’s count in a small badge (Pro).

Falcontext reads your .odt to count it, on your own computer, and never writes the file: a fix goes through the editor, and only when you press Fix. Your writing is never sent anywhere, and no AI is used on your writing in any way. How your data is handled.

  • Which files: Writer documents (.odt), from Apache OpenOffice or LibreOffice.
