How to see the Ellipsus word count.

Ellipsus counts your words for you; here’s how to show it.

  1. Editor settings → Word count

Open the editor settings (the gear at the top right of the format panel) and switch on Word count. It shows in the editor, except in focus mode.

  2. The Timer

Click the hourglass at the top of the editor and set a time. When it ends, Ellipsus tells you how many words you added or removed.

  3. Writing Journey: the word count over time

On a document’s card, the three dots → Information → Writing Journey: its word count, your active writing time, sessions and writing speed.

From Ellipsus’s own help pages, October 2026. What they don’t keep: a daily goal across all your documents, and a streak.

What Falcontext adds to Ellipsus.

Ellipsus gives you a word count

  • A word count in the editor, a timer and a Writing Journey per document
  • Focus mode, spell check in 18 languages, and an outline from your headings
  • With Ellipsus Plus, writing insights of its own: readability, passive voice, adverbs and more, also with no AI

Falcontext adds

  • A daily goal, live. What you add today counts towards your goal for the day and your total, and a finish date keeps pace with you.
  • Writing streaks. How many days in a row you’ve written, with your best day and best sprint kept as records.
  • Counting with the panel closed. Allow write.ellipsus.com in Falcontext’s Settings, and the documents you’ve counted before keep counting with Falcontext closed.
  • Each document, and each draft. A document you start today counts as all today’s. A draft is tracked on its own.
  • Checks written for fiction. prose checks with lines set from published novels, the findings marked in your text: filter words, dialogue tags, tense slips and more.
  • Fix it in Ellipsus. Fix sorts out a straight quote, a “the the” or a double space inside your document, and Ellipsus’s own Ctrl+Z puts it back.
  • Chapters and characters. Bird’s Eye maps your chapters and scenes, and the character tracker shows who appears where.
  • Focus Mode (Pro). Ellipsus’s focus mode plus full screen, with a little badge for today’s words (Ellipsus hides its word count there).

Ellipsus says it will never use generative AI. Falcontext uses no AI at all: Your writing is never sent anywhere, and no AI is used on your writing in any way. How your data is handled.
