Falcontext › Grammar checker without AI

A grammar checker without AI?Checks for your writing, with no AI in them.

Looking for a grammar checker without AI? Falcontext checks your writing with rules and word lists, on your own device. It catches the slips writers make, in a sentence and across a whole story. It isn’t a full spelling and grammar checker, and I’d rather tell you that up front.

What it checks in your sentences

  • Sound-alikes: a real word where its sound-alike was meant, like “their going”, “pour over” or “taller then”.
  • Doubled words: “the the”, and doubled marks like “,,”. Words people do say twice, like “had had”, are left alone.
  • One word or two: every day or everyday, all ready or already, a lot.
  • Dialogue punctuation: a full stop where a tag follows (“Hello.” she said), or the comma outside the quote.
  • Spacing slips: two spaces between words, or a space before a comma.
  • Curly or straight quotes, often mixed by pasted text.
  • Tense and point of view: a paragraph that slips out of the tense or person the rest of the book uses.

What it checks across the whole story

A checker that reads a sentence at a time can’t see these, because they sit pages or chapters apart.

The picture at the top is chapter 14 of my own novel, Tethered to Darkness. Hilm stands up twice. Three editors, five beta readers and dozens of ARC readers missed it.

There are style checks too, like adverbs, filter words and passive voice. Every check, with what published novels do.

How a grammar checker works without AI

Every check is a rule or a word list, from trusted sources or written by me, and it runs on your own device. Nothing guesses at what you meant, and nothing rewrites your sentence for you. A whole book is checked in seconds.

Your writing is never sent anywhere, and no AI is used on your writing in any way.

What it doesn’t do

It isn’t a full spelling or grammar checker. It doesn’t go through every word and every sentence the way Word, Google Docs or Grammarly do. So keep your editor’s own spelling and grammar check on, and let Falcontext look at what that one can’t see.

In a test

In my newest test (1 November 2026) I gave the same short story, with 17 slips in consistency, to a row of tools. Falcontext caught 16. Grammarly’s free plan caught 2, and ProWritingAid 4. In single sentences, Grammarly and the AI chatbots caught more than Falcontext did. The full test, and how I ran it.

Comparing tools? Falcontext vs Grammarly and Falcontext vs ProWritingAid.

Questions about checking without AI

Does Falcontext use AI?

No. Every check is a rule or a word list that runs on your own device. Your writing is never sent anywhere, and no AI is used on your writing in any way.

Can it replace my spelling and grammar check?

No. It isn’t a full spelling or grammar checker, so keep your editor’s own on. Falcontext catches what that one misses: sound-alikes, names spelled two ways and slips across the whole story.

Will my writing look AI-written after using it?

No. It never writes or rewrites your sentences. Fix changes only the slip you pick, such as a Fix changes only the slip you pick, like their for they’re.ldquo;theirFix changes only the slip you pick, like their for they’re.rdquo; that should be Fix changes only the slip you pick, like their for they’re.ldquo;they’reFix changes only the slip you pick, like their for they’re.rdquo;.

Is it free?

Yes, with no time limit and no sign-up. Doubled words, spacing slips, tense and point of view and duplicate paragraphs are free in full, and so are adverbs, passive voice, dialogue tags and filter words. The other checks show their icon and how much they found; Pro shows every finding.
