Prose check: duplicate paragraphsHaven’t I read this before?

You moved a scene to chapter nine and forgot to delete it from chapter four. Falcontext finds duplicate paragraphs anywhere in your book.

In Falcontext’s Edit tab, Duplicate paragraphs is one part of Doubled words and paragraphs, with doubled words and marks. Each part has its own light, and the worst sets the check’s.

What it finds

The same paragraph, eight words or longer, twice in one manuscript. Pasted twice, or left behind after a move.

TwiceThe house at the end of the lane had been empty for nine winters.
Mara stood at the gate and did not go in.

Spaces don’t count. Every word does: change one, and it’s a different paragraph.

Never red

Repeating a paragraph can be deliberate: a refrain, a line said twice. So this check goes orange at most. Ignore the one you meant.

How Falcontext checks duplicate paragraphs

Guidelines, not rules. A refrain is meant to come back. Ignore the ones that are.

Falcontext’s Edit tab beside Perch’s writing pad: the Duplicate paragraphs check open, finding the same paragraph twice, marked in the text.

How do I find duplicate paragraphs in my manuscript?

Falcontext’s duplicate paragraphs check finds any paragraph of eight words or more that appears twice, anywhere in the book. It’s free.

What if I repeat a line on purpose?

Ignore that finding. A repeated paragraph is never red, because a refrain or a line said twice can be the point.
