Prose check: doubled words and marksFind the the doubled words.
Did you see it? Most people read straight past “the the”. That’s exactly why it ends up in published books. Falcontext doesn’t read past doubled words.
In Falcontext’s Edit tab, Doubled words and marks is one part of Doubled words and paragraphs, with duplicate paragraphs. Each part has its own light, and the worst sets the check’s.
What it finds
- A word typed twice: “the the”, “to to”.
- Doubled marks: “,,” “,.” “?.”
What it leaves alone
Words people really do say twice: had had, that that, bye bye. In dialogue only little words like “the” and “to” count, because characters repeat themselves.
How Falcontext checks doubled words
Guidelines, not rules. “Had had” is left alone already. Ignore anything else you meant.

- Fix
- Fix takes out the extra word or mark. In the desktop app, delete it yourself.
It checks today’s writing as you draft, on the Write tab, too.
Doubled words are classic proofreading: the fifth and last pass of the self-editing guide, once the rewriting is done.
