About Falcontext
Is Falcontext free?
Yes. The Free plan has no time limit and needs no sign-up: word count tracking, daily and total goals, streaks, sprints, reminders, the Bird’s Eye outline, one tracked character, the badges for your writing, and the free checks in full (adverbs, passive voice, tense, dialogue tags, filter words and plain slips). The rest still show green, orange or red and how much they found, so you can see where to look. No ads. Pro adds the full toolset for $1.99/month or $19.99/year, with a free trial.
Does Falcontext use AI?
No. No AI is used on your writing in any way. Every check, from adverbs to tense slips and pacing, is a rule or a word list that runs in your browser, which is also why the results come so fast. Nothing rewrites your text, and your manuscript is never used to train anything.
Will Falcontext read or store my manuscript?
No. Your writing is never sent anywhere: Falcontext reads it in your browser, and every count and check runs there. What it keeps is numbers (word counts, goals, streaks), your settings, and your documents’ names and addresses, plus a phrase or name from a check finding you choose to ignore. The writing pad keeps the manuscripts you write in it in your own browser. The privacy policy lists it all. Private, no AI, instant →
Which editors does Falcontext support?
Google Docs gets live tracking through the Docs API, including documents with several tabs. Atticus, WordPress's block editor and Ellipsus get extra support – from whole-book tracking in Atticus to switching on each editor's own focus view. Any other browser-based editor with real text on the page is tracked directly from what's on screen. Falcontext Perch, the web app, counts Google Docs on any device and has a writing pad of its own, and a Mac app for Scrivener, Word, Pages and LibreOffice Writer is on its way, and the desktop app for Mac and Windows tracks Scrivener, Word, LibreOffice Writer and (on the Mac) Pages. Google Docs already counts words. Why use Falcontext?
Google Docs shows a document’s total. Falcontext tracks how that total changes: the words you wrote today against your daily goal, progress towards your word count target, your writing streak, a projected finish date and your history – plus word counts per chapter and scene, a character tracker and prose checks.
Why does Google ask me to pick my document?
Falcontext can only read the Google Docs you choose – nothing else in your Google Drive. The first time you track a document, Google's own file picker opens on it: select it once, and Falcontext counts it from then on. You can remove this access at any time in your Google Account.
Why "Falcontext"?
Read it either way – both are intentional. Falcon + text, for where the idea started. Or Fal + context, for what it actually tracks: whichever document you're writing in, right now. Hover (or tap) the logo in the navigation bar to see it flip between the two. Falcontext is made by Matt Falcon.
Plans and Pro
How do I activate Pro?
After checkout, Lemon Squeezy emails you a license key. Open Falcontext, click ☰ → Settings, and paste the key into License Key: Pro unlocks straight away. One license is for one person, on all your own devices: paste the same key in each browser, on each computer and in the desktop app. Step by step →
Does the free trial require a card?
You'll add payment details to start the trial, but you're not charged until it ends. Cancel any time before then and you won't be billed.
Can I use it across more than one device?
Yes – one license covers all your own devices. Your goals, streaks and history stay in step between Chrome browsers signed in to the same Google account, and Sync through your Google Drive (in Settings) shares them with Edge, Brave and Arc, and with Perch (the web app) and the desktop app. How sync works →
What happens if I stop paying for Pro?
Nothing is deleted. You keep every day of tracked history – Pro-only views like the trend graph and Focus Mode simply lock again, the same as the Free plan.
